The Potter chooses available clay - June 25th 2017 - MP3

The Potter chooses available clay

The idea that we have been useful to God in some way in our life is an incredibly high honour. Many of us can reflect on a time where we were privileged to be involved in even some small way to help others to experience the love, grace, word or beauty of God. Those moments for us are often our best moments, and many of us genuinely desire to have more of them. Often the great challenge, though, is when we look at our lives we feel that there is too much broken, worn or weary for us to be useful to God and his work in a powerful way. We feel as though there are others who are better suited and more qualified for accomplishing the purposes of God. Watch, as Kevin helps us see that no matter what situation you are facing or what hardship you are in the middle of you are always useful to God!

The Potter Kneads You - July 2nd 2017 - MP3

Series: The Potter Sermon: The Potter Kneads You

Have you ever thought to yourself something like, "This journey of following Jesus is harder than I expected."? As we begin our life with Christ, we are very excited at first. We can hardly wait to announce to others the great decision that we have made and how amazing it is now that we are beginning to understand the personal relationship with Jesus that each of us can have. Although, somewhere along the line we start to realize that there is work involved in following Christ, and often that work includes God pressing on our life to form and shape us into the person he has called us to become. Watch, as Kevin explains how the invitation to follow Jesus is not just a call to emancipation, but a call to formation.

The Potter Adds Water - July9th, 2017 - MP3

Series: The Potter Sermon: The Potter Adds Water Have you ever had a time in your life when you felt like you were the only one? Perhaps you felt like you were the only one standing up on an issue or who didn’t get invited to a party. Maybe you were the only one who walked out of the movie because it was inappropriate or you were the only one standing up for the person who was getting bullied. It’s awkward to be the only one standing up on an issue when you feel like you are the only one standing out, even if you are sure that you are right. It makes you nervous, and sometimes uncertain. As a Christian in our culture today it can quite easily feel like this. It seems as though with increasing measure as Christians we might be the only one’s standing up on a particular issue or situation when everyone else in the office, or at school, or in the community is going in the opposite direction. Watch, as Kevin explains what we need to be added to our lives on a daily basis to help us stand on the right issues in the right way to bring change to our culture.

The Potter Whaps You - July 16th, 2017 - MP3

Series: The Potter Sermon: The Potter Whaps You

Have you ever said one word to someone and the person heard something entirely different than what you were trying to communicate? This misunderstanding often happens when we start to talk about how God disciplines those he loves. We don't like to speak of God's discipline very much do we? The reason is likely because when we say God disciplines us, it feels that he is authoritarian and unloving. Also, when people hear the word discipline, they think punishment. Watch, as Kevin explains that discipline and punishment are not the same things, and how as believers in Jesus, God never punishes us for what we've done, but he lovingly disciplines us towards what he wants us to do.

Most of us have become obsessive planners. Even though many of us would not see ourselves in this way, the truth is that we strategize and plan many things throughout our day that don't have much significance. For example, think about the last meal you ate, did you plan in your head how you were going to eat that meal or item? Probably most of us did. The truth is that we love to plan, strategize most things in life because we like to be prepared for what will come next. However, all of us have realized that no matter how much your plan or how good your plan is, life is just unpredictable! Watch, as Kevin has a fresh take on a very familiar passage and helps us embrace how to respond in the midst of the unanticipated pressure filled situations that God allows us to walk through in life.

Listen as Pastor Steve talks about this process.

Recently, an arson set fire to a church in our community which consumed most of a church building that had been standing for over 100 years! Despite the best efforts of fire crews much of the building was destroyed. We have also been witnessing some of the most devastating wildfires in British Columbia in the past six decades! These fires have cumulatively consumed over 200000 hectares to this point. We have all been trained and told from a young age not to play with fire because fire consumes. However, fire also refines when it is used correctly and is under control. Watch, as Kevin demonstrates how vital the refining fire of the Holy Spirit is as the heavenly Potter shapes us into more useful vessels for His purpose.

Watch, as Kevin demonstrates an important understanding that each of us must have regarding how incredibly significant all of us are to God, the heavenly Potter, and how he uniquely forms and shapes us because he values us not the other way around.
