This challenge was created to impact 4 areas of our lives:
The physical, Spiritual, Mental, and Social.
Each challenge was selected to push us in one of those 4 categories and develop disciplines that make for a well rounded, engaged, strong, man of God. Below you will see each of the Daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly components of this challenge along with some links and information for clarity when necessary.
Physical
The goal of physical well-being for a Christian man isn’t rooted in vanity. It’s not for the purpose of having a chiseled physique or beach perfect body. Rather, the impetus for Christian men is that of stewardship of our bodies which the apostle Paul referred to as “temples of the Holy Spirit” (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Looking after your physical body will lead to health in so many other areas of life.
Spiritual
As those created in the image of God, we consist of body, soul, and spirit. Once again, the apostle Paul writes, “the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” (Gal. 6:8) Nurturing our spirit through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit through Biblical practices and disciplines leads to wholeness, but also eternal wholeness.
Mental
Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
2 Tim. 1:7 - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.I believe God desires for us as men to experience wholeness mentally as well.
The challenge of not being conformed to the world is to not be consumed by all the noise and distraction of this world. Though there can be many reasons for men struggling with mental health, learning disciplines to cut out so much of the noise of the world can be a key contributor to better mental health.
Social
For many men, this can be one of the harder challenges in being intentional about connectivity with other brothers. It can often be too easy for us to hide and isolate without ever having good opportunities for us to connect so as to be known and know others. God never intended us to do life alone. We were made for community and camaraderie.Proverbs 27:17 - Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
